About Dr. Katherine Loflin

Dr. Katherine Loflin, known as “The City Doctor,” is credited as a pioneer in place science, the characteristics of a city that make people love living there and how that emotional attachment matters to local economic development and personal thriving. Her work in this area has been credited for improving the quality of life for millions worldwide. 

Awarded with the international Place Marketing Award, she has been featured in TEDx talks, an authored book, a talk radio show, and frequent press appearances. She is perhaps globally known for her acclaimed invited keynotes worldwide including Gallup World Headquarters, the United Nations, Federation of Canadian Municipalities, National Association of Realtors, Asia-Pacific Cities Summit, as well as numerous keynotes in Australia, Sweden, Canada, France, and the US.

Through her production company, The City Doctor Productions, Dr. Loflin creates and produces innovative tours, productions, and events that bring Cary history to life. In the short life of the company, these projects have become very popular, earning national and statewide acclaim and awards. Her entertainment credits include being an award-winning Executive Producer for ABC, local playwright, live theatre producer and director, professional actress, and event producer.

Prior to her current endeavors, Dr. Loflin held the position of CEO of Television Production and Development for the Brian Hamilton Foundation. As the Executive Producer of the associated award-winning national ABC show, “Free Enterprise,” she helped garner nearly 1 million viewers weekly. During her previous tenure at the Knight Foundation in Florida, Dr. Loflin served as Program Director, responsible for the strategic charitable investment of her annual $20 million grantmaking portfolio.

Dr. Loflin’s journey began when she became the first social worker ever placed in a local television newsroom during her graduate studies. This pioneering role, recognized by the National Association of Social Workers, involved assisting reporters in creating responsible social issue stories at an NBC affiliate in North Carolina. She holds a Masters and Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
